Intervening to Help in the Writing Process – S$6.00
This booklet presents a ‘just-in-time’ method of helping students to improve their writing. The method allows the teacher to intervene in the composing process so that students can benefit from guidance and instruction provided at the stage when the student’s composition is still in the creation process. The first chapter presents the general principles governing the how, what, and when of intervention. The chapters that follow demonstrate the application of these principles in lessons on three types of writing: narrative, recount, and the argumentative essay.
Antonia Chandrasegaran teaches academic writing and composition research at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Her current research is aimed at developing a computer programme, called Essay Assist, for delivering self-access help to college students during the essay writing process.
